While all cargo trailers share the same basic shape, that doesn’t mean that all cargo trailer models are the same. A cargo trailer that’s a perfect fit for one user’s needs might not be such a good fit for a different user. That’s why the experts at Absolute Trailer Sales Inc. have created this cargo trailer buying guide.

The Material

Most currently available cargo trailers are either made of steel or aluminum. Aluminum is popular because it’s lightweight and easy to tow. Aluminum is also very corrosion resistant. At the same time, steel cargo trailers tend to be more durable than aluminum cargo trailers, so a steel model is the better choice when you need to haul a heavy load. It’s also usually easier to get your cargo trailer serviced if it’s made of steel. That’s because many cargo trailer repairs require welding, and welding aluminum requires a special technique.

Outer Skin

One factor that people shopping for cargo trailers often forget about is trailer skin thickness. While thinner walls mean less material used and thus a cheaper trailer, thinner walls are also more vulnerable to weather damage and warping. If you plan to use your cargo trailer a lot, you may need to hunt down a model that has a thicker skin.

Roof

Some cargo trailers have rounded roofs, while others have flat roofs. Models that have a flat roof are usually cheaper. However, flat roofs also tend to collect rainwater, which can lead to mold growth. While cargo trailers with rounded roofs cost more, water just runs off of them, meaning you won’t have to worry as much about mold growth.
